Kindle Publishing Experiment
I have had my Kindle reader since October and really love it. I was unsure about using a reader since I don't like the backlight, etc. but the Kindle doesn't have these distractions.
What I really like about it is that when I go on trips I don't have to carry a half dozen books with me. Typically a beach vacation requires at least 5 pounds of books but with the Kindle reader I can carry the hundred or so books that I have on there with no fuss. The battery lasts a LONG time and, surprisingly, the screen is easier to read in the bright sunlight than a regular books. Even with sunglasses.
Since I loved it so much I decided to try an experiment in the leisure/business lifestyle that I am now practicing and post three books I had written to the Kindle marketplace and see what happens.
Effective today, The Bottle Tree, a short novel about life in early 1900s Louisiana, is available at Amazon. I started writing The Bottle Tree intending for it to be a 80,000 word novel but it developed into a 30,000+ word novella. For those of you familiar with publishing, no one wants a novella no matter how good it was. The feedback that I got from agents was to put it in a drawer and publish it after I get famous (Ha!). However, the Kindle is perfect for it. I priced it low and its a great read for that price if I do say so myself.
I have two other books I am now formatting for the Kindle and will keep you posted on how it is working as I go. In the meantime, if you have a Kindle download the sample and see if you like The Bottle Tree. If you don't have a Kindle get one!
As a side note, a Kindle App is available for Droid and Apple Products here and the Kindle books can also be read on your computer.
