Review – Last Man Standing
I have an admission to make. I caught the show on Hulu. When I was flipping through the channels and saw "Last Man Standing" I assumed it was some type of reality show and so watched something else instead. Even though I had seen the commercials for the series, the name didn't stick with me as most of them do so the marketers may want to make a note of that.
It's a funny show if 1) you like Tim Allen and 2) you can stand the awful, absolutely awful laugh track.
It is basically a Home Improvement redux, only this time Tim Allen plays a father who does manly (big surprise huh?) viral videos for an outdoor company who is phasing out their catalog in favor of online sales.
Tim plays…Tim. His family (who I can't help thinking of as his new family) consists of a wife three daughters and one grandson, a result of the oldest's prom night.
The show is good, very funny in spots, but is obviously not quite as polished as it could be and you can see the potential here for a hit once everybody gets comfortable with each other.
The writing does a good job of playing off of Tim's ability to be completely bumfuzzled by the ways of women, particularly teenage daughters. The show is obviously attempting to be timely by addressing the issues of both internet sales forcing the way businesses operate as well as the more troubling aspects of teenage unwed moms.
I'll give it three stars for now, maybe that will jump later.
It probably would get another star except for the worst laugh track ever. Loud, distracting, annoying and completely unnecessary.
