So You Want to Be a Freelance Writer
I've loved to write since I was in grade school and have always dreamed of being a full time writer.
Well … sort of.
I dreamed of being a writer that wrote a few months out of the year and then lived and traveled on the millions generated by my bestselling novels the rest of the year.
Instead, I went a different career direction, had some triumphs and some bitter failures and am now back here, writing again.
If you're going to be a freelance writer, whether writing articles, books, or scripts (or even blog entries) just remember: A writer writes. A lot. And reads.
Over the life of this blog I'm going to discuss a lot of things, but one will be how you can make money writing for a variety of outlets. It has never been easier to make money writing than it is now, mainly due to the plethora of websites that want writers and pay a little for each article.
For instance, I just got in the whopping sum of $16 for two articles I wrote for an online magazine. Not a lot of money, two trips to Starbucks will wipe that out, but it only took me about ten minutes each to write the articles and I would have just been lazing around when I wrote them. One of them was on how to cook a Salt Crust Prime Rib, which I knew by heart. The publisher requires sources, not just correct information, so I wrote the article, found a few online sources and made sue they matched my info and published it. Easy as pie and that netted me $8.
I am going to put an Amazon Ad at the bottom of this entry with a few books I highly recommend if you are considering writing for bucks. I have a lot…A LOT…of books on writing but these are my favorites for various reasons.
I will be discussing specific online publishers in future blog entries so stay tuned. Also look for our Twitter Feed at DearDude1 and look for us on Facebook.
