Tourists Beware!

A Mexican tourist boat sank off of the Baja Peninsula on Sunday (July 3) and it appears at least one American died and six others are still missing at the time of this writing. 44 people were rescued.  You can read the full story at this MSNBC article.

Just a brief note for those of you visiting other countries, like Mexico or the Caribbean: Be careful!

I love the Caribbean and Mexico but American tourists sometimes forget that the regulations we so often complain about here in the U.S. are less stringent, non-existent, or not enforced in many of the tourist destinations.

On more than one occasion I have watched drunk tourists climb aboard parasailing rigs that are, at best, inadequately maintained and in poor condition. Likewise with some fishing boats and other "adventures" that may get the unsuspecting tourist more excitement than they bargained for.

While we may go overboard in the States sometimes, it is better to be too safe than not enough. I'm not saying don't use the equipment, I am saying look it over and if in doubt, don't do it.

Have fun but BE SAFE!
